The Seven-Day Summer Sesshin at Zenwest’s Red Flag Mountain Temple in Sooke is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in intensive residential Zen practice, and to participate in co-creating our Sangha’s space
The schedule includes plenty of sitting, there will be a great opportunity for Samu (work practice) and our efforts will be going into developing our own practice place – Kokizan-ji (Red Flag Mountain Temple). There will be chanting, yoga and silent hikes, formal meals, Dharma talks and interview with Eshu Osho. Essentially, this is an immersive residential Zen training experience.
For those who wish to develop further in practice at Zenwest, we offer the Eldership Programme. To qualify for this year long focused programme of practice and study, a candidate must maintain membership in good standing with the Zenwest Buddhist Society for a minimum period of one year, and complete a minimum of two five-day intensives with Eshu Osho. For more information on the Eldership Programme, please contact the Centre.
Do you wish to retreat for a short while in a peaceful, quiet and beautiful environment? Escape the pressures of work and life in the city? Zenwest has a hermitage and camping space available at our Kokizanji Temple for members that wish to experience a personal retreat or engage in residential practice at the temple.
Zenwest Buddhist Society offers a Non-Residential Training Period (NRTP), an opportunity to dive deeply into practice without the commitment of residential training and ideal for householders. This is a three month period where you commit to deepening your practice and maintaining a schedule of sitting, chanting, journaling and study, care practice, body work, and interview. Designed to assist you in engaging deeply with practice, the NRTP is offered to members and associates several times a year.
Maintaining Formal Zen training while leading a busy life with a family and career can be difficult. If you aren’t able to make it to the Zendo as often as you would like, one way of supporting your daily home practice is to schedule Training Meetings with Eshu Osho. This is an opportunity to investigate your practice in an intimate one-on-one environment with our Abbot and teacher.
