Courses

The Victoria Zen Center offers many courses to enhance and deepen your Zen practice.  If you are not yet a member, the Orientation to Zen Buddhist Practice course is your gateway to membership.  Once a member, you are able to take additional courses such as Fundamentals of Zen, intensive Preparation Course and others.  Please see below for a full description of all the courses and their fees.

Orientation to Zen Course

If you are interested in learning how to meditate, this is the course for you. For people that are seeking to reduce stress, clarify a busy mind, improve focus and awareness, boost immune function, improve sleeping patterns, or gain insight into the mental, physical, and emotional habits that are preventing you from living life fully, this course offers a gradual combination of study and practice, individual and group interaction, and personal guidance that will provide a strong foundation to experience the profound change that Zen meditation practice offers.

Orientation Consultation

If you currently practice in another tradition and would like to begin practice at the Victoria Zen Centre, please call to arrange for an Orientation Consultation with Ven. Eshu. This is a two-hour formal meeting in which you will be familiarized with the form of practice, review your practice background, and discuss the expectations involved in practice at the Victoria Zen Centre.

Intensive Preparation Course

If you have successfully developed a stable daily practice of Zen meditation as a member of the Victoria Zen Centre, and are wondering how to go further with our Sangha, this course is your next step. Participants will be introduced to the subtleties and differences involved in intensive training, and will receive an orientation to, and experience of, practices that are specific to intensive training in the Zen tradition. The Intensive Preparation course is the gateway to deepening your practice.

Fundamentals of Zen

Building on the foundation of training established through the Introduction to Zen Meditiation Course you will be introduced to some of the fundamental teachings of Zen Buddhism. Group activities and training assignments ask that we take these teachings out of our head and engage them in the day to day unfolding of our lives.
